Today at Kuranda Wholefoods we decided to have some fun and take a look at the fruits that can consider themselves as the healthiest on the planet! Fruit can sometimes get a bad rap for its high sugar count; however, it is packed full of antioxidants, fibre, good cholesterol, vitamins and minerals. Coming in right at the top of our list is avocado! (yes, it is a fruit.) This social media and café culture phenomenon is jam-packed with nutrients to protect us from diseases and make us feel great. Whilst appearing “fatty” avocados are full of the monounsaturated fat which is the kind our bodies need. This type of fat has been proven to help prevent chronic and serious diseases. Avocados also contain two different types of carotenoids which help prevent loss of vision in people over 50! These two carotenoids are commonly taken as supplements however you can get all the benefits just from eating avocado. As with all the fruits on this list, avocado is packed with antioxidants which are the secret to anti-aging. The most concentrated antioxidants in avocados can be found just below the surface of the skin.
At number two on the list is the brilliance of apples. Very high in nutritious fibre, both soluble and insoluble, apples have only 543 kilojoules none of which come from fats. In fact, you can get 20% of your daily fibre from a single apple. Containing high amounts of vitamins A, C, K and B when picking up an apple it’s hard to go wrong from a nutritional standpoint. On top of all this, apples are fantastic for improving metabolic and digestion health. A superfood indeed.
