Cranberries Are The Underrated Superfood

Cranberries Are An Underrated Superfood

Cranberries are often referred to as a superfood due to their high antioxidant content and nutritional value. However, they tend to not receive the praise they deserve all year round and are not included as a staple in as many peoples’ diets.

Antioxidants serve as protection for our bodies against external factors such as UV exposure, pollution and cigarette smoke. These external sources are known as key factors causing oxidative stress which can lead to diseases such as arthritis, cancer, heart disease and stroke. Antioxidants from cranberries, the kind found in our Berry Blend Muesli, can terminate these intruding factors and help to protect us from cell damage.

Along with this, cranberries are extremely versatile and carry even more benefits. Throughout history, cranberries have been used to treat bladder and kidney diseases by Native Americans and blood disorders or scurvy in early settlers from England. In fact, cranberries have also been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect and can aid the lining of our vessel walls to benefit our cardiovascular systems.

Perhaps the least well-known fact of cranberries is that they provide benefits to teeth! Researchers from the Center for Oral Biology and Eastman Department of Dentistry at the University of Rochester Medical Center have conducted studies stating that cranberries are able to help prevent bacteria from binding to teeth and even prevent gum disease.

With all this in mind, it’s important to include a healthy dose of Cranberries in our diet all year round! Check out our famous Berry Blend Muesli and Almond & Cranberry Energy bars to get your daily dose of antioxidants and cranberry goodness.
